Juvederm is an injectable hyaluronic-acid-gel dermal filler designed to add volume to the face and reduce the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles.

Juvederm can be injected into multiple areas of the face. This FDA-approved injectable filler can be used to treat lipstick lines, parentheses lines, marionette lines, and the nasolabial folds. Juvederm can also be used to plump up lips, and it can even be helpful in reducing and erasing the appearance of certain scars.

How Does Juvederm Work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is essential for keeping the skin hydrated. As you get older, the amount of hyaluronic acid your body naturally produces starts to deplete. This can lead to loss of volume in your face and can also exaggerate the look of existing lines and wrinkles.

When Juvederm is injected into the targeted areas, the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles is diminished thanks to the skin-plumping and smoothing properties of hyaluronic acid. As a result, your face appears more youthful and hydrated.

Juvederm is a popular cosmetic treatment because of the natural-looking results it delivers. Unlike other injectables on the market, Juvederm does not alter the composition of your face or relax the facial muscles, so it won’t be obvious that you’ve had any work done.

The Consultation

During your consultation with Dr. Graber, she will ask you about your medical history and any cosmetic procedures you have had in the past. She will also ask you about any allergies you may have, along with medications or supplements you are taking.

Dr. Graber will examine your wrinkles and ask you about your expectations from your treatment. Doing this helps Dr. Graber determine if Juvederm is the right treatment for you.

The Procedure

Before your procedure, the areas of the face where you will receive your Juvederm injections will be marked. A topical cream or local anesthetic may be applied to your face before you receive your injections.

Dr. Graber will administer your Juvederm injections to the targeted areas, then lightly massage the areas to evenly distribute the filler. Depending on how many injections you receive and the severity of your wrinkles, the procedure can take anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes.

After Your Injection

Downtime after a Juvederm injection is minimal. You may experience some mild side effects, like redness, swelling, or pain at the injection site. These are temporary and should go away in a day or two.

For twenty-four hours after your treatment, you should avoid continuous sun exposure, strenuous physical activities, and/or consuming alcohol.

You will see results immediately following a Juvederm injection. Results can last anywhere from six months to two years. Talk to Dr. Graber about your expectations from this procedure.
