Growing up, I had clear skin and did not have any major issues with acne during my teenage years. The little problems I did have cleared up by the time I was 20, however as I got older I started noticing painful pimples that would not go away no matter what topical ointment, cream, or face wash I used. After I turned 30, one day this mysterious severely painful pimple showed up on my face and it just kept getting larger and larger. It turned different colors, from angry red to deep purple until one day it popped and needles to say it was disgusting. I started developing these pimples on my face every month or so and no one was able to help me. I went to my PCP, several dermatologists within my hospital and no one had an answer for me. This went on for quite a few years. One doctor prescribed accutane, but it wasn’t for me. It made my hair fall out, I had severe nose bleeds, headaches, my skin was dry and peeling constantly and I was depressed. I went to him crying and he looked me in the eye and said “there is nothing else I can do for you”. I felt dismissed, like he just didn’t care and hopelessness set it.

About a month later, I was online doing research about any other options that I may have and by some miracle came across a picture and name of Dr. Graber. I booked an appointment and when I came in, the staff was so pleasant and understanding even though I did not have my referral. They helped by contacting my PCP to get one. Dr. Graber changed my life with that appointment. I was sobbing so hard, and felt like this was my last chance for a solution. Dr. Graber was so attentive and understanding and said we will figure this out. She prescribed Spironolactone, to treat my cystic acne and within 6 months I was a new person. I have been a patient at Dermatology Institute of Boston for years and have been singing the praises of staff and doctors for all those years, because partally I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I had not met Dr. Graber.

I’ve struggled with acne for about 10 years and tried everything. Face washes, topicals, antibiotics, and even two rounds of Accutane. Some of these treatments would work temporarily, but my acne would always return after stopping. One day, my dermatologist at the time suggested I go see Dr. Graber and consider AviClear. While initially cautious, I did 3 very quick, symptom-free AviClear sessions and I am stunned by the results. Never in my life have I had such a long period without a single acne breakout. I’ve been coming here for laser hair removal and acne treatment for a few years, and the staff has been consistently helpful and kind to me. Their onboarding paperwork wasn’t perfect (only binary gender options, no obvious mention of how trans patients should answer), but the staff themselves have put in extra effort to help me get their services covered by my insurance, and they’ve gotten my pronouns and name right consistently. Laser here has been dramatically more effective than previous treatments at different practice in Boston, but it’s also significantly more expensive ($550/session for full face). Two sessions here had more effect than 8 sessions at another shop, though, so I suspect the net cost might be similar.

The staff is always so helpful and kind and when seeing Dr. Graber I never feel rushed. When I go for skin checks she always takes the time to point out things and explain what they are as well as answer all the questions I have. (I tend to be over cautious with freckles).

They also have an amazing acne treatment called, Sebacia. Definitely look into it. It worked wonders for my acne!
