If you’ve been searching for an effective way to address skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles, and a dull complexion, PicoWay® laser treatment may be the perfect choice for you.
This FDA-approved treatment applies laser energy to the skin, causing imperfections to fade and restoring clear, youthful-looking skin. It’s a popular option for brown spot treatment, acne scar revision, and more.
South End, Grove Hall, and Newton Corner patients are encouraged to book a PicoWay laser treatment consultation with one of our highly skilled dermatologists. Our Boston facility is near popular spots like Copley Square and the Boston Public Library.
The PicoWay laser is able to effectively address a wide variety of skin issues for Chelsea, Winthrop, and Beachmont patients. These include age signs, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.
This cutting-edge laser treatment is often used for removal of sun spots, age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), freckles, and melasma. PicoWay can also address fine age lines, acne scars, rough texture, dullness, oversized pores, and an uneven complexion. Additionally, it’s frequently used to get rid of unwanted tattoos.
Most people are excellent candidates for non-invasive and non-surgical PicoWay skin-rejuvenation treatments. While other lasers are unsafe for darker skin tones, PicoWay can be safely administered to patients of all skin tones.
PicoWay is an ideal option for Watertown, Somerville, and Jamaica Plain patients with sensitive skin who have experienced unexpected side-effects from other laser treatments. Patients who are in good overall health and have realistic expectations are excellent candidates for PicoWay treatments.
If you have active skin inflammation in the treatment area, it’s best to fully treat it before coming in for PicoWay laser treatment. This includes sunburns, acne breakouts, and wounds. Pregnant or nursing patients should also postpone their PicoWay treatment session.

Like other laser skin treatments, PicoWay treatments apply laser energy to the skin. This energy treats hyperpigmentation by breaking up excess melanin pigment in the skin. The pigment is shattered into particles, which are filtered out of the body over time. In this way, it can also treat unwanted tattoos, locking onto the ink pigment in the skin.
The laser treatment addresses wrinkles, acne scars, oversized pores, roughness, dullness, and an uneven complexion by triggering the body’s healing process. This encourages new collagen and elastin protein creation at an advanced rate while increasing skin-cell turnover.
PicoWay’s intensity can be calibrated based on the specific issues being treated. The technology can produce laser energy at four different wavelengths: 532 nm, 730 nm, 785 nm, and 1,064 nm.
The PicoWay laser system creates extremely short energy pulses in comparison to other lasers. These pulses only last for picoseconds, or trillionths of a second. The incredibly short application time minimizes unnecessary damage to the tissues, making it safer than many other laser treatments. Recovery and downtime are minimized as a result.

During a PicoWay laser treatment consultation at our Boston clinic, you’ll discuss your treatment goals with a skilled dermatologist. They will examine your skin and ask questions about your medical history to ensure that the treatment will be safe for you.
Next, they’ll go over the details of the treatment, along with your potential results. Feel free to ask questions at any time.
A PicoWay laser treatment session usually takes just 15 to 20 minutes. At the start, a topical anesthetic is applied to the areas being addressed. This numbing cream minimizes discomfort during the treatment session.
Next, after calibrating the laser, the dermatologist uses the PicoWay laser handpiece to deliver energy pulses to the targeted regions. Once the areas have been evenly treated, the session is complete.
Patients typically come in for three to six PicoWay laser treatment sessions. Patients will need to wait four to six weeks between sessions to allow their skin to heal and recover.

After your PicoWay laser treatment session, you’ll need to follow our post-treatment care directions closely. This will ensure a comfortable healing period and high-quality results.
You’ll most likely be able to get back to your everyday schedule right after your PicoWay session, since no downtime is usually required. A minor degree of swelling and redness may be present, along with a tingling sensation. Treated areas of hyperpigmentation may temporarily appear darker, and there may be purplish spots. These issues will all fade shortly.
For the first week after your PicoWay treatment session, you’ll need to stay away from any skincare products that are harsh or abrasive. Stick to mild, gentle skincare options that are fragrance-free and do not contain acids. Apply a moisturizer regularly.
Make sure to avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen as directed. You’ll also need to stay away from hot baths and saunas for three days or longer.
Heavy exercise should be avoided. If you notice any scabs forming in the treated areas, do not pick at them. Instead, let them fall away naturally.
Several factors may be considered when determining the price of PicoWay laser treatments. The total number of treatment sessions required to achieve optimal results can affect the overall cost. Additionally, the types of skin issues being addressed can impact the price, as can the severity of these issues.
