Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, with 1 in 5 Americans developing it in their lifetime. Fortunately, early detection and prevention save lives.

Know the 3 most common skin cancers:

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

  • Most common
  • Often appears as a pearly bump or pink patch
  • Rarely spreads internally but can cause local damage
    Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

  • Often appears as a rough, scaly patch or sore
  • Can spread internally if untreated

Melanoma

  • Most deadly but highly treatable when caught early

Look for the ABCDEs of Melanoma:

  • Asymmetry
  • Border irregularity
  • Color variation
  • Diameter >6mm
  • Evolving shape/size/color
    Melanoma

Sun Safety Tips:

  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily (yes, even on cloudy days!)
  • Reapply every 2 hours, and after swimming or sweating
  • Seek shade between 10 AM and 4 PM
  • Rock a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses
  • Avoid tanning beds!

Get Checked:

  • Perform monthly self-skin checks
  • See a dermatologist annually for a professional exam
  • If you notice any new or changing moles, don’t wait—get it checked
