10 Tips to Celebrate 10 Years for The Dermatology Institute of Boston!

This year, the Dermatology Institute of Boston turns 10!
To celebrate a decade of skin care, growth, and community, we’re sharing 10 expert tips
straight from our wonderful providers- one for every year we’ve been
honored to care for your skin.
- Don’t forget to apply SPF to the scalp: stick sunscreens work great on
the part-line, especially on kids! - For clogged pores, sulfur masks used twice weekly can help reduce
congestion and calm breakouts. - Tinted sunscreens pull double duty: they camouflage discoloration
while protecting against visible light, helping prevent and treat certain
types of hyperpigmentation. - Hair breakage is usually a moisture issue, not a growth issue:
consistent conditioning, leave-in treatments, and limiting heat matter
more than so-called “hair growth” products. - Apply moisturizer to damp skin to lock in hydration and improve
overall absorption - Green-tinted skincare products can help neutralize redness for a more
even-toned appearance. - Children and teenagers commonly develop new benign moles. However,
new moles appearing after age 30 are less typical and should be
evaluated by a dermatology provider. - Avoid tanning beds entirely– they cause significant DNA damage, often
more harmful than a single severe sunburn. - Some popular lip balms can actually worsen dry lips. Keep it simple-
plain petrolatum like Vaseline or Aquaphor is often the most effective
(and least irritating) option. - Have a scrape or cut? Skip the Neosporin. Neomycin, one of its
active ingredients, is a common contact allergen and can trigger
reactions that delay healing. Wounds heal best in a moist environment–
so yes, we’ll say it again: Vaseline or Aquaphor wins!
